Visit the interior of Teufeslberg, the Berlin of the Cold War

Teufelsberg, literally Devil’s Mountain, is one of the symbols of the Cold War in Berlin. At the ‘summit’ of this artificial hill was an American listening centre, right in the heart of the Eastern bloc.

It’s an extraordinary place to visit if you have a bit of time in Berlin.

It’s one of the places where street art is constantly being created, a fabulous playground with impressive surfaces.

I’ve already written about Berlin Teufelsberg, the devil mountain, and this post completes the picture with a ‘tour’ of the interior. In recent years, for security reasons, it was not possible to go inside the buildings, but now it’s possible again, with new artists and new works.

Visiting the interior gives you access to the terrace and a magnificent view of Grünewald, the forest to the west of Berlin and Berlin itself.

This is also where you can get a closer look at what remains of the bubble structures that housed the listening instruments. These structures are gradually decomposing to reveal the metal skeleton.
